Recent //Herschel///HIFI observations failed to detect any H3O+ in Orion KL near 984.7, 1655.8, and 1657.25 GHz. Thus, previous reports on observations of this molecular ion in Orion KL could no be confirmed. It is possible that emission lines observed at lower frequencies (near 307.2, 364.8, and 396.3 GHz; see above) are caused by other species:\\

Pure inversion transitions of H3O+ with //J// = //K// up to 11 were detected with the HIFI instrument onboard the //Herschel// satellite toward Sagittarius B2(N). Two components were invoked to occur in the envelope of Sgr B2(N), one with a rotational temperature of about 160 K and one with about 520 K.\\

Hot, metastable hydronium was also observed toward Sgr B2(M) and toward W31C outside the Galactic center by\\

Values of //T//rot were (re) determined as 177 ± 54 K and 546 ± 80 K for Sgr B2(M), 172 ± 51 K and 424 ± 48 K for Sgr B2(N), and about 62 K and 360 K for W31C; fewer transitions were detected for this last source and only up to //J// = //K// = 9.\\
