Early Science from GOTHAM: Project Overview, Methods, and the Detection of Interstellar Propargyl Cyanide (HCCCH2CN) in TMC-1

The observations were obtained in the course of the line survey Green Bank Telescope Observations of TMC-1: Hunting for Aromatic Molecules. The data were recorded with very high resolution which resolves, at least in part, the complex velocity structure and the 14N hyperfine structure splitting of the 41,3−31,2, 51,5−41,4, 50,5−40,4, and 51,4−41,3 transitions near 22.6, 26.6, 27.3, and 28.2 GHz, respectively, at the expense of noise levels of about the same level as the individual lines. The analysis was improved by employing a stacking technique.

Several a-type transitions and even some weak b-type transitions were detected in the course of their molecular line survey carried out with the Yebes 40 m radio-telescope.
