Reports on N-Methylformamide, CH3NHCHO, in the ISM

The basis of the observations was the unbiased molecular line survey Exploring Molecular Complexity with ALMA (EMoCA) in the 3 mm region (84.1–114.4 GHz) carried out in Cycles 0 and 1. A reasonable rotational temperature and column density were derived. Twelve lines are given in the appendix of which about half suffer little blending and the others slightly more. The number of lines is somewhat small to claim a definitive detection, but large enough for a tentative one, especially in light of the astronomical model and the astrochemical model calculations.

In the course of a new unbiased line survey toward the high-mass star-forming region Sagittarius (Sgr) B2(N) close to the Galactic center, numerous lines of N-methylformamide were detected toward Sgr B2(N1S), a position about 1“ south of the continuum peak of Sgr B2(N1). The detection of the molecule has been secured by these results. The results toward Sgr B2(N2) are very similar to those in the study described above.

Several unblended to slightly blended lines of the barely higher lying conformer were detecetd toward the cold and presumably shocked molecular cloud G+0.693−0.027 close to Sagittarius B2(N).
