Thiols in the Interstellar Medium: First Detection of HC(O)SH and Confirmation of C2H5SH
Astrophys. J. Lett. 912 (2021), Art. No. L11.
Nine rotational transitions (of the trans conformer) with 2 ≤ J ≤ 8 and Ka mostly 0 or 1 were reported and shown, of which seven were unblended or marginally blended, two lines were more blended. The observations were part of an unbiased molecular line survey of the quiescent giant molecular cloud G+0.693−0.027, about 1' north-east of Sagittarius B2(N), carried out with the Yebes 40 m dish at 7 mm and with the IRAM 30 m dish at 3 mm. All lines, including the blended ones, were modeled reasonably well employing an LTE fit with Trot = 10 ± 1 K. The moderate signal-to-noise ratio limits the quality of this fit somewhat; the quoted values range from 13.4 to 6.0. The column density of formic acid is about a factor of 12 higher, that of methanethiol a factor of 40 higher.
